With construction now taking place on the future 11-kilometre Finch West LRT, victories on the ground will soon come. In the meantime, the project is already winning awards.

Members of the Finch West LRT project team were presented with a silver award for innovation and excellence in public-private partnerships by the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) in October. The project was recognized for breaking new ground in how P3s are built, financed and deliver services, while bringing the most value for the general public, with an estimated cost savings of $566 million.

“The Finch West LRT project represents an exciting and significant investment in rapid transit for Toronto,” said Metrolinx CEO Phil Verster. “The Project Financing award is further evidence of Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario successfully collaborating with the Mosaic Transit Group to ultimately provide taxpayers with the best value for their money.”

The LRT is expected to provide significant benefits to local communities. They include supplier opportunities for local businesses as well as jobs and apprenticeships for those from historically disadvantaged groups.

Once complete, the new rapid transit line, with enhanced connections, will transform Finch Avenue West into a vibrant community.
